To accommodate the use of different vehicle restraint systems on our road network tested and approved transitions need to be implemented to ensure the entire suite of products remain compliant when moving from one containment class to another. Our complete range of tested transitions allows for a safe and compliant connection between normal containment, high containment VRS and bridge parapets. The transitions are vital in preventing road accidents as they retain the integrity of each independent VRS whilst still allowing clients to use multiple systems on one length of need. Flexbeam VRS ‘Tranzflex’ transitions have been tested with our range of bridge parapets allowing engineers to specify and procure their entire VRS suite from the HS Roads Group.
Our end terminals will safely terminate a permanent run of vehicle restraint system. Our wide range of P1, P2 and P4 end terminals results in a compliant connection to the Flexbeam VRS and all non-propriatery safety barrier systems. The Brifen wire rope restraint system also has an approved termination.
In addition, we offer a suite of energy absorbing crash cushions that will safely terminate Temporary VRS (TVRS) systems. They are called Vecu-Stop and Quest 110.
The Vecu-Stop atentuator systems are designed to work with a range of temporary VRS systems including: Zoneguard, Varioguard, Rebloc and Multi/Maxibloc. It tested to EN1317 and achieves a D1 displacement value. The energy and impact-absorbing cushion is guided by a wire rope system and offers little to no maintenance once installed. The Vecu-Stop can be installed as a temporary or permanent measure and is often seen around toll booths. The Quest 110 is a solely temporary crash cushion that can be installed within 30 minutes. With D2 performance, the system fits well within the central reservation when maintenance crossing points are open. It can be integrated with both concrete and steel TVRS.
All transitions are tested to avoid pocketing and to prevent the barrier from breaching once impacted. Vehicle speed, the desired working width and the vehicle containment class are all considered during development. They are tested to work with Varley & Gulliver bridge parapets.
